Velox ICF New Build Project
Project type: New build using Velox ICF system
Location: Lymington, New Forest
We’ve recently started work on a new project in Lymington, in the New Forest, where we are using the Velox insulated concrete formwork (ICF) system.
As demand continues to grow for faster, more energy-efficient construction methods, ICF is becoming an increasingly popular choice for developers, architects and private clients across the UK. This project is a great example of how newer systems like Velox are being adopted to meet those demands.
What is the Velox System?
Velox is a form of insulated concrete formwork that uses cement-bonded wood fibre blocks, rather than the more common foam-based systems typically seen in the UK.
This approach offers a number of advantages, including improved breathability, excellent thermal performance and strong acoustic insulation. Widely used across Europe, Velox is now gaining traction in the UK as more projects look for sustainable and high-performance building solutions.
So why Velox on this project?
Every project has different requirements, and selecting the right construction method is key to delivering long-term performance.
On this build in Lymington, the Velox system provides a strong balance between structural performance, energy efficiency and build speed. It also aligns well with the increasing focus on sustainable construction and modern building standards.
As experienced groundworks and ICF contractors, we are always looking to stay at the forefront of new construction methods, ensuring we can offer the most suitable solutions for each individual project.
Key Benefits of Velox ICF Construction
- Faster build times compared to traditional methods
- High levels of thermal efficiency, helping to reduce energy costs
- Improved acoustic insulation
- Breathable wall structure
- Strong and durable construction system
- Popular in Europe and now gaining traction in the UK
Forward-Thinking Approach to Construction
With the construction industry continuing to evolve, adopting systems like Velox allows us to deliver high-quality, future-proof builds for our clients.
We’re looking forward to seeing how this project progresses over the coming months and will be sharing further updates as the team progress and work continues.

Project type: Basement Construction Location: Notting Hill I was catching up with the team over at our Notting Hill project this week, with the slab prep well underway. This scheme will see three substantial properties converted into 44 flats, with reduced-dig basement works forming part of the programme. Sand blinding is all installed, DPM laid and reinforcement fixed, ready for the pour. Good progress and tidy work from the team. Thinking about a new reduced dig Basement in London? McGrath Civils specialise in basement construction across London and the Home Counties. Project type: Basement Construction Location: Notting Hill Nice progress on a project we’ve been involved with in Notting Hill, over the past few weeks. The scheme is a big one, 3 large houses being converted into 44 flats, and our role has been delivering the reduced dig basement, drainage works (including the attenuation tank) and the new concrete slab. Tight access, busy location and plenty to coordinate, but the site team have done a great job keeping everything moving and tidy on site. Always satisfying seeing the groundwork stages come together and setting the project up for the next trades. Thinking about a new reduced dig Basement in London? At McGrath Civils, we take pride in delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions across London and the Home Counties. One of our recent projects demonstrates just how important careful groundwork is when creating a new home. We’ve just finished working on a new residential property in Clapham, one of London’s most sought-after areas. This site is set to host a modern, spacious home, and our team were tasked with laying the ground beams and drainage systems, two critical components that ensure the property’s stability and longevity. Why Ground Beams Matter Ground beams are a key part of a building’s foundation. They distribute the weight of the structure evenly across the soil, helping prevent movement and cracking over time. Without properly designed and installed ground beams, even a well-built home can face structural issues down the line. The Role of Drainage Equally important is a robust drainage system. Proper drainage protects the property from water damage, prevents flooding, and ensures the surrounding soil remains stable. In a residential area like Clapham, effective drainage is essential to safeguard both the home and neighbouring properties. Delivering Quality, Every Step of the Way Our team approached this project with precision and attention to detail, completing the ground beams and installing a reliable drainage system. By combining experience with the right equipment and techniques, we ensure the foundations are solid, safe, and built to last. At McGrath Civils, we know that the success of any new build starts beneath the surface. Whether it’s basements, ground beams, or drainage systems, our team is committed to providing the highest standards of civil engineering for every project. It’s been a good couple of weeks on our Wimbledon basement project. The basement is for a large block of flats, and the first step of the new-build project. The project started in March 2025. We’ve continued building the walls up to ground-floor level, pushing on nicely from foundation stage. The ground's been dug out, blinded, and we’ve laid the Cellcore insulation, helping manage ground heave and future-proofing the slab. The steel was tied and drop beams formed, before concreting more of the base slab. Quality work and tidy finish from the team. On to the next stage! McGrath Civils have many years of experience in basement construction, working on large projects like this in Wimbledon as well as more modest garden basements for private customers all over the South of England. It’s been a busy start to 2025 at McGrath Civils. We've been working on a groundworks and RC project over in Northampton, where we've been helping an M&E company with sub-station works on a new solar farm. Some of the fantastic aerial shots we've taken give an idea of the size of this project. We have lots of experience in working with infrastructure and M&E companies, and have worked on multiple projects over the last few years and dozens over the last 20 years. If you or your clients would like to speak to us about helping out with a project involving solar farm groundworks, anywhere across the South of England or Midlands, then get in touch.
