Basement in Virginia Water

Basement Works Progressing Well in Virgina Water

Project type: Basement Construction
Location: Virginia Water

Good progress on site over in Virginia Water, where the team are delivering a basement as part of an ongoing residential project.

The basement walls have now been poured to first height, allowing the temporary retaining steels to be safely removed. This marks an important milestone on the job and means the structure is really starting to take shape.

As with all basement projects, careful sequencing and temporary works management are key. The team have done a great job getting this stage completed safely and efficiently, keeping the programme moving forward.

The client is very happy with progress so far and we’re looking forward to pushing on with the next phase of the build.

At McGrath Civils, we take pride in delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions across London and the Home Counties. One of our recent projects demonstrates just how important careful groundwork is when creating a new home. We’ve just finished working on a new residential property in Clapham, one of London’s most sought-after areas. This site is set to host a modern, spacious home, and our team were tasked with laying the ground beams and drainage systems, two critical components that ensure the property’s stability and longevity. Why Ground Beams Matter Ground beams are a key part of a building’s foundation. They distribute the weight of the structure evenly across the soil, helping prevent movement and cracking over time. Without properly designed and installed ground beams, even a well-built home can face structural issues down the line. The Role of Drainage Equally important is a robust drainage system. Proper drainage protects the property from water damage, prevents flooding, and ensures the surrounding soil remains stable. In a residential area like Clapham, effective drainage is essential to safeguard both the home and neighbouring properties. Delivering Quality, Every Step of the Way Our team approached this project with precision and attention to detail, completing the ground beams and installing a reliable drainage system. By combining experience with the right equipment and techniques, we ensure the foundations are solid, safe, and built to last. At McGrath Civils, we know that the success of any new build starts beneath the surface. Whether it’s basements, ground beams, or drainage systems, our team is committed to providing the highest standards of civil engineering for every project. It’s been a good couple of weeks on our Wimbledon basement project. The basement is for a large block of flats, and the first step of the new-build project. The project started in March 2025. We’ve continued building the walls up to ground-floor level, pushing on nicely from foundation stage. The ground's been dug out, blinded, and we’ve laid the Cellcore insulation, helping manage ground heave and future-proofing the slab. The steel was tied and drop beams formed, before concreting more of the base slab. Quality work and tidy finish from the team. On to the next stage! McGrath Civils have many years of experience in basement construction, working on large projects like this in Wimbledon as well as more modest garden basements for private customers all over the South of England. If you or your clients would like to speak to us about helping out with a new basement project then please feel free get in touch with us. It’s been a busy start to 2025 at McGrath Civils. We've been working on a groundworks and RC project over in Northampton, where we've been helping an M&E company with sub-station works on a new solar farm. Some of the fantastic aerial shots we've taken give an idea of the size of this project. We have lots of experience in working with infrastructure and M&E companies, and have worked on multiple projects over the last few years and dozens over the last 20 years. If you or your clients would like to speak to us about helping out with a project involving solar farm groundworks, anywhere across the South of England or Midlands, then get in touch. Ground Floor Slab of a Basement in Oxford
By Sean McGrath December 20, 2024
It’s been a busy December at McGrath Civils! One of our basement projects in Oxford is coming to end. The team have now poured the ground floor slab, and just in time for Christmas! This has been a really challenging basement, due to the very tight access and the fact that it's set in the middle of the water table but we're delighted with the result and hats off to everyone involved on the project so far. We have lots of experience in building basements all over Oxfordshire, so feel free to contact us if you or your client would like us to spec and price a new basement project in Oxfordshire in 2025. We will be pleased to speak on the phone or meet you on site for a chat. Email details of your project (please include drawings, site address and your timeline) to info@mcgrathcivilsltd.co.uk or call and speak to Sean McGrath personally on 07717 014006

It’s been another busy month at McGrath Civils! I’ve been over in High Wycombe this week, with one of our teams that are working on an ICF project for a private client. The team have carefully designed and built the topek decking system, installed the rebar including the penetrations for roof lights and are then overseeing the 75m3 pour this week. We’re also now installing the up-stand walls for skylights and solar panels, so it’s all systems go over there! If anyone needs any help with a new ICF project, a groundworks package or a new basement then feel free to drop us a line, we will be pleased to speak on the phone or meet you on site for a chat. To discuss a new ICF project get in touch via email, attaching details of the project and location to info@mcgrathcivilsltd.co.uk or call and speak to Sean McGrath personally on 07717 014006
