What is Piling?
Piling is a type of deep foundation that provides essential support to allow structures to sit on top.
Piling is used to transfer the load to a deeper level than is possible with a traditional shallow foundation. With certain grounds that are unstable, vertical columns, usually concrete or steal, are driven into the ground in to give extra support to the new building structure that will sit on top.
Pilings can be either driven into the soil or formed on site by excavating holes and then filing it with concrete.
Piles work together with a foundation and perform two main functions:
- Foundation repair
- Structural reinforcement
Our Piling Services
There are a several types of piling services that we can help you with, which include:
Driven Piling
Driven piling is a fast and cost effective deep foundation method and can be used across a wide range of ground conditions. They are typically used in made grounds, sand and gravel, contaminated ground or ground with a high water table. We can help you with pre-cast concrete, thick wall steel tubes and steel cased driven piling.
Mini Piling
Mini Piles are often used for underpinning and on sites with difficult or restricted access. We are able to help you design and install a range of mini piles including bottom driven steel, sectional flight auger or augered mini piles.
The piling contractors at McGrath Civils are able to carry out a range of mini piling services, suitable for projects such as retrofit basements, extensions or new builds with limited space.
Augered Piling
Augered piling offers a cost effective, low noise and vibration piling solution and can be used in almost all ground conditions, from soft ground to high grade rock core.
Augered piling rigs are predominantly used on sites with no access limitations and are suitable for medium to high loaded structures to sit on top. Augered piling is also suitable for environmentally sensitive sites and for sites that have existing structures on or in close proximity.
